After adding custom field to the SC, value is not appearing after check

Hello ,

I added one custom field to the shopping cart. after adding to the field shopping cart header, it is showing now on the screen.When I entered the Value on the field it is clearing once i click on check button. could you please let me know why that value is clearing after click on CHECK or SOME ACTION.
